Desperate times

Call for desperate measures.

We are still trying to find a sleep groove that works for us. Our awesomeness with the first obviously didn't carry over to the second, because we can't seem to figure out the sleep thing with this one to save our lives.

Our friends have a little boy that's just older then Hudson and he too was still waking in the night and would reach for his mom's hair. So one night out of desperation for a full nights sleep she put a doll in the crib with her baby so he could grab the dolls hair. It worked, and he was sleeping through the night. Every night after she told me that I kept thinking "Man, I wish we owned a doll!" But, with 2 boys we don't really have dolls around here.

The third night after she told me about their doll solution I was just about to my whits ends and I remembered that I had a cabbage patch type doll that my mom had made for me when I was a kid that I had in the basement. It didn't have the corn silk hair so I wasn't sure if he would take it as a substitute but I had to try SOMETHING. So I ran down to the basement and grabbed the boy doll (because that's a little better then him sleeping with a girl doll...right?) and put it in bed with him. At first he wasn't fooled. But once he was asleep he didn't mind having a doll hand on him instead of mine.

Where's Hudson?

One afternoon Roman, Hudson and I went down to the basement so that I could work on some sewing. I started a movie for Roman in the family room and brought Hudson in the bedroom with me with some toys to play with so I could keep an eye on him. I would turn and check on him between each line of stitching. Have I mentioned that he has gotten FAST at crawling? Well, he has. I turned around and he was gone. I ran out of the room and he wasn't anywhere. I had closed the bathroom door, the other bedroom door, he wasn't in the family room, laundry room, closet. I was really starting to get frantic.

I ran back into the bedroom that I had been working in and heard a little noise in the corner. I looked over and saw two little feet sticking out from behind the door.

He was completely behind the door to the bedroom happily playing.

Too big!

Okay, I am play catch up...BIG TIME! Not in order at all. I organized pictures and I am going to try to grab one or two a day to blog about in hopes of eventually catching up.

As we still try to find the perfect sleep solution; one night we resorted to the bouncer seat. (*Note I just checked and this was April 18, as I said, super far behind!) The next morning while Hudson was happily playing I realized he is WAY too big for a bouncer seat anymore.

You know your baby is too big for the bouncer when their feet hang over the edge....

You know your baby is too big for the bouncer when they have to lay like this to fit in the bouncer....

You know your baby is too big for the bouncer when they can stand up in it to look out the window (sorry no pictures of that, had to grab said baby so he didn't topple out of the bouncer).

And speaking of too big...Roman was cold one morning...so he decided to wear Hudson's coat.

Crazy Crawler

Hudson has gone from rolling as his main form of getting around, to army crawling, and he is now crawling on his hands and knees. I think is's so cute when babies just learn to crawl. It opens a whole new world for them (and a whole other level of baby proofing for mom.) We never went through this with Roman. He went straight to crawling on his hands and knees full speed so it's been fun to watch Hudson figure out new ways to get around.

I just love this cute smiling face.

Moving and shaking

Hudson is a funny kid. He wants to be independent in some things...like feeding himself. Other things, he's content to sit back and let us do them for him. Getting around on his own is one of those things. He is getting more and more mobile, but if he has the choice to crawl someplace on his own, or to be carried, he would rather have us be his transportation.

That said, he is starting to get more and more mobile. Last week he started pulling up on his own, and he can't get enough of standing up and he's starting to cruise along furniture. Last Monday night was awful because he would wake up in the night and stand up in his crib, then he would just cry and cry. Thankfully that was only a one night deal, and it's been better since then.

I put Hudson in the tub while I am taking a shower so he can play (the tub has toys in it, you can see a Winnie-the-pooh paw sticking up if you look closely.) Rather then playing Hudson just likes to stand up and hit the side of the tub now. Who needs toys when you can get up and cruise around the tub?

Another trick Hudson is starting to pick up is climbing. Spencer had to go on a training last week so he had his suitcase in our room. Spencer and I were in our room talking, we looked over and Hudson was on top of the suitcase. Neither of us saw him climb on it. He almost always does his climbing when we aren't looking.

A few other cute things that Hudson is doing right now. He loves to wave and he loves to clap his hands. He also loves hitting things to make noise. We have been trying to work on signing with him, but he just looks at us like we are crazy whenever we sign to him. We're still working on it. Roman's picking it back up great!

Sweetest Sound

The sound of my boys...playing together on the floor...laughing. These are the moments that make everything else TOTALLY worth it!

9 months

Hudson is 9 months old. I keep telling Spencer it feels like this first year has gone by even faster with Hudson then it did with Roman. It just goes WAY too fast.

He is so cute and fun. He is crawling (mostly army crawling) and getting so fast. He loves using his voice. He says "Dada" most but has started saying "Mama" more and trying to say other things. He loves waving "Hi" to people. He LOVES to eat. He is a little garbage disposal. He will eat just about anything.

One of his favorite "trouble" things to do right now is get into the dog food. As soon as we turn our backs he goes for the bowl. One day Spencer said that he was even going all the way around the table and trying to take the sneak approach to get around to the dog food without being detected. He's just not fast enough yet. (Thankfully!)

Hudson had his 9 month well child check-up on Thursday. Unfortunately the numbers on the scale haven't seen how much food this boy puts down.

Weight - 15 lbs 10 oz (less then 1%)

Easter Baskets - Hudson's first Easter

Easter morning was unusual at our house. We all woke up at different times, so as someone woke up, they went to find their basket. Spencer woke up first, and I did a GOOD job hiding his basket. I laid in bed upstairs listening to him open and close cupboard doors, washer, dryer, dishwasher. I think it probably took him about 10 minutes to find his basket. His was filled with a few chocolate eggs, a pair of University of Utah flip-flops then I sent him out to his car to get what wouldn't fit in his basket...a lawn edger.

I got up next, I wandered around. Spencer said that my basket was hidden obviously. I found it but it had a note that said that my gift wasn't in the basket that it was hidden elsewhere. After looking around a bit more I found my present. I got a new frying pan. I know it may not sound exciting, but I've been wanting a new (good) frying pan for a while, so it was exciting for me.

It was after 8:00 and Roman was still asleep so we went and opened his bedroom door so he would get up. Hudson woke up while we were waiting for Roman to stagger out of his bedroom. So we took the boys downstairs together to find their baskets. We put Hudson's basket on his high chair because we figured he wouldn't really be able to search for his.

Roman came down and saw Hudson's basket (bucket actually) and he wanted the bubbled that were in Hudson's. He wanted the books. He didn't want to find his own so he dissolved into a puddle of tears on the carpet. We took him back up to his bed to calm down so he could find his basket.

While Roman was calming down I got Hudson's bucket down off his high chair for him and put it on the floor so he could check it out. He was crawling across the kitchen when I put it on the floor and he saw it and went for it. I had the camera out so I was able to get video of him going for his bucket.

He had fun pulling everything out (tasting it all) and of course making noise.

About that time Roman came back down and found his basket and the eggs that were hidden for him. Once he realized there were cool things in his own basket he was over Hudson's basket (well, sort of....he kind of claimed both, but that's what he always tries to do.)

After Roman had gathered all his eggs Hudson had fun playing with all the empty Easter eggs.

First Haircut

Hudson got his first haircut on Saturday. It probably could have waited longer, but I was cutting Dad and big brother's hair so I decided we would just make a day of it. He had a few hairs that were REALLY long, and the top was getting long. Hudson was actually really great about letting me cut his hair. He sat mostly still and was happy to sit and look at Spencer and Roman who were busy entertaining him (by taking his pictures.) I should hunt Roman's camera down and see if he got any good pictures. When we were done we said "that was a lot easier then Roman's first haircut, we had to hold him."

Before - See the long hair in the front and the crazy hair on top. The hair on top in the back is ALWAYS sticking up.

During - Save me dad....what is mom doing to me?

After - See how handsome?

And all spiked up with brother.
